Issues Regarding Dowry system
The Dowry system in India refers to the durable goods, cash, and real or movable property that the bride's family gives to the bridegroom, his parents, or his relatives as a condition of the marriage. It is essentially in the nature of a payment in cash or some kind of gifts given to the bridegroom's family along with the bride and includes cash, jewellery, electrical appliances, furniture, bedding, crockery, utensils and other household items that help the newlyweds set up their home. This is the logic behind dowry.
But these days it is made as a compulsion to give and get dowry.In some cases they take this as a chance to show their wealth to the groom's family.In the other hand, these are becoming too serious and the families which dont get proper dowry from the groom, tend to hurt and treat her badly asking for dowr.In a shocking note, there are 24,771 dowry death cases in the past 3 years alone!!!
Here is one example.
A young woman who was working with the DRDO in Hyderabad allegedly committed suicide due to dowry harassment. According to a report in The New Indian Express, Varsha, 25, hanged herself when her in-laws were not at home.
The report states that she took the extreme step due to dowry harassment. However, her parents have alleged that there were injuries on her body and that she was killed by her in-laws.
Varsha, an engineer, was working with the DRDO since 2011 and got married to Ranjith Goud in March 2015. The report says that her parents had given dowry worth Rs 80 lakh consisting of jewellery and property. Ranjith is a junior railway engineer and is said to have demanded more dowry of Rs 10 lakh in cash and the six acre agricultural land her father owned.
Varsha had reportedly been complaining about dowry harassment to her parents but they had tried to assure her that things would get better.
Varsha ad Ranjith had gone to Goa for Diwali and had returned on Sunday evening at around 5.30 pm. On Monday morning, she allegedly committed suicide in her in-laws home. A case of dowry death under Section 304(b) has been registered after a complaint, the report says.

One of the worst evils of Indian Society is the dowry system. The word ‘dowry’ means the property and money that a bride brings to her husband’s house at the time of her marriage. It is a custom that is prevalent in all the sections of our society in one form or the other. At the beginning it was voluntary, but later on the social pressure was such that very few could escape from it.
ReplyDeleteThe dowry at present is a source of both joy and curse in the society. It is also a joy to the husband and his relatives who get cash, costly dress and utensils, furniture, bedding materials, etc. But, it is a curse to the bride’s parents who have to bear enormous cost to satisfy the unreasonable demands of the bridegroom’s party. A demand of dowry does not diminish even after marriage. The in-laws of the bride are very much ready in Indian homes to inflict harassment, insults and tortures-both mental and physical. When more pressure is put on the bride’s parents, their dear daughter has no other option but to commit suicide to avoid more insult and torture at the hands of the members of her husband’s family.(P.Revathy)
Dowry is a big disease of our state.In school lessons I have read that dowry is to make compensate their money(i.e., groom's parents).They used to spend more money for the son's studies and they used to regain their money by getting married to his son and getting dowry to the girl who marries his son.Not only getting dowry before marriage they used to get after their marriages to.Women's struggle lot in that situation some may commit suicide to.Some will divorce.As a Indian we should not spread the disease,we should prevent the disease.As we are youngsters we should be aware of that disease and spread that awareness to people.Dowry should be destroyed in our state.Motivate your brain to destroy the disease.I hope you guys will destroy.
